1. My business plan
Business plan for an Ideabook
It would be an Ideabook version of Facebook where professionals post their opinions about various topics and concerns around the world with instant feedback from other professionals.
The unique aspect would be that there is no specific purpose like for example getting a job on LinkedIn or socializing on Facebook. It is all about ideas and freedom of speech. It would not be censored but the identity of the people would be known and their credentials.
The aim of this site would be to promote ideas around social change, good business practices and legal issues related to international laws. It would aim to promote transparency, good environmental strategies and honest views.
The main language would be English so that may be a barrier for some but overall I think English could be eventually adopted as the official business and international language. The censorship could be another issue since many governments sensor sites that promote freedom and social change.
The way to monetize the idea would be similar to Facebook with self-service adds except that these adds would be relevant to the theme of the site. It would be companies that are already developing the environmentally friendly model in some respect, be it energy related or some other way to better humanity.
Also business angels would be able to see the ideas and discussions and invest in business of their choice. These businesses will then pay a commission back to the site, if they make a profit over certain amount. Also professional bodies might pay a membership fee in exchange for data protection and patenting of ideas.
The advantage of the site would be that it would attract professional people and those that would like to make a positive change. There would be no censorship so everyone would be free to discuss matters that are important. The membership would be limited to those that can prove that they are genuinely interested in discussing ideas, through their work or hobbies or interests.
The company will be marketed through some already established networking sites such as Facebook or Linkedin.
To create a site I would need the expertise of programmers, designers and marketing team.
2. What part of Prezi did you find useful for yourself and what not so useful? Why?
There were many parts of the Prezi on Entrepreneurship that I did find useful. For example the difference between entrepreneur and intrapreneur. This is something that is perhaps overlooked in already established companies. Innovation is an important part of any business and being able to find ways to use the product or services in a new way that perhaps changes something for the better, in the way society works, is important.
Reflections on how the Entrepreneurship theme is present in my own line of work.
3. Which local organisations near me give entrepreneurship help ?
Recently as part of my work at school we were invited by Samsung to view their latest devices. I found the Samsung presentation interesting in the context of the schools. They talked about empowering teachers to control the technology so that students can’t misuse it. For example enabling the pads as learning devices to be remotely controlled by the teacher. I guess this would be important for the future of technology in schools since younger students might be too easily destructed to work.
Also the practical aspect of being an entrepreneur is important and students who are interested should be given opportunities to have an experience of what it is like to run a company for example.
The school-enterprise cooperation is important and I have seen this happen quite a lot in the gaming industry in Finland. For example Aalto University has a Media Factory
where prospective entrepreneurs can try their ideas in a simulated business model and also meet like minded people to work on group projects. The Media Factory also facilitates lectures and talks with people from industry and business angels.
Another important organisation in gaming industry is IGDA ( International Games Developers Association ) that facilitates meetings with experts from the gaming industry and potential investors, together with TEKES ( The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, a part of Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy).
Also I have been to some other more traditional entrepenour talks in Helsinki for example “EnterpriseHelsinki is a service centre for entrepreneurs in business, or who hope to enter business. The centre provides support, all the way from developing a business idea to finding the right contacts”. This centre also offers services to immigrants in various languages as well.
I am currently working in the IB school and I have seen some of my students even at this age participating in interesting research and business ideas. For example one of my students has been involved in a project about high altitude photographing, he wants to be able to send a helium weather balloon, certain number of kilometers above the sea level to be able to film the curvature of the earth, the dark space. He has been able to gather some sponsorship from various companies such as Nokia and Canon in the form of equipment. I have encouraged him to create a website and a blog as part of the IT lesson.
This is also a good example of opportunity centered learning as the student explores the opportunity, he is planning to realize it, he is relating it to personal goals and he is acting to make it happen.
