What are the starting points in my vocational teacherhood? -Reflect on your previous strengths and your previous competences.
I have successfully taught
over 3 years in various Independent schools in London, UK and a high achieving
International School in Espoo, Finland. This gives me confidence in planning and implementation of teaching materials. I would like to
obviously develop more in the areas of interaction and special needs education.
Also I believe that I have high level competence in using ICT as I am actually
teaching technology as an elective and have studied on a Master level.
I am a foreigner in Finland and I am very much aware of the need for a multicultural approach in education and I do posses global competences. I am sensitive to other cultures and I do use various skills such as: creativity, empathy, dialog, multi -perspective approach in my teaching. Also I always implement critical thinking and analysis in my teaching strategy.

I am aware of
ethical issues in education and I treat students with respect and I care for
their learning and personal development. I always approach my learning materials
with a lot of attention to different learning styles and I try to give a fair
opportunity to everyone to develop their creative skills.
Also I am always striving to implement global competences in the teaching materials, with a view of incorporating these values in the community. It is important to emphasize community awareness, responsible citizenship, so that students can feel empowered to act in areas that need change or just to respond to the needs of others. Sustainability is particularly an area where I draw a lot of inspiration and motivation for various projects. This can be on the level of environment or human rights, equality etc.

I have had the opportunity
to work for established companies and a startup as well so I am aware of the demands of the
different working environments compared to the academic one. Also I am always following new trends and latest
developments in technology and creative fields. My teaching experience has been
mainly in Secondary school so I do not have the experience of teaching in
Higher Education. Regardless of the age I have always tried to bring the
awareness of the demands of the working life to my students and encourage them
to take initiatives in their creative and learning process.
Working community competence
This is an area I would
definitely like to develop more. Most of my understanding of laws, statues and
guidelines comes from the UK system and I would like to be able to understand
the Finnish educational system better. Also working in an International school
can be difficult at times since we do not invest so much time in learning
Finnish and depend a lot on translations in English.
Global competence
I am teaching
in an International school that is International Baccalaureate (IB) authorized
school. In this way I am aware of international educational policies and I am
in direct contact with students from many different cultures.
Competence
in research and development
I would like to
develop more in this area as I am only teaching at Middle school level and
would like to be more aware of research opportunities in the area of visual
culture, arts and media. I have been observing lectures at Aalto University with a view of being able to do my teaching practice there.

I am working during the week around 26 hours, where I combine teaching with support work in Espoo International School. Therefore I study mostly in the evenings and weekends. Also during school winter holidays I will spend most of the time reading and studying, as I would like to complete the course as soon as I can.
Consider the possibilities teaching practice in your own field of work. In which vocational institute or polytechnic or other institute can I carry out my teacher practice? What core contents shall I concentrate on? Which target audience shall be my students? Or shall I go abroad for Teaching Practice?
I have been in touch with Aalto University Photography department and have observed some of the lectures there and will be continuing with observations later in March and April. Some of the lectures that I have observed were: Research Methods, forming research questions, interactivity between art and research, Liz Wells ( Sense Of Place, On landscape photography, region and identity). Also I have been to the Media Lab part of Aalto University and have observed a 3D animation workshop, Java Script workshop and will be also attending series of lectures on researching multimodality and synaesthesia as a part of Media Design research seminar. This is with a view of maybe being able to do the teaching practice in this context. This has not been confirmed yet and I am also looking at other options. I have contacted another art school Taidekoulu MAA and a list of other art schools in the local municipalities.
So my target audience is post 17, 18 and I am also looking into the possibility of doing my teaching practice abroad, although I would prefer to do that in Finland as I am already abroad here.
What former competences or learning shall I present to be accredited? –Familiarize yourself with the accreditation policies of the school.
I have already submitted my BA (Hons) Art and Design and MA Hypermedia transcripts. Although I have done almost a whole year of study in UK on a PGCE course I cannot transfer any of these credits since they were not given as individual credits, but were viewed as a part of the whole course with the work experience.

MY FUTURE AS A VOCATIONAL TEACHER

I would like to work on creative, inspiring materials that will motivate students to make a positive change in their personal development and community at large.
Also I can draw on the personal experiences and self knowledge in order to link the content of learning with life and expectations of the work environment.
Motivate students to experiment and innovate, use their creative potential and use their mind in making informed decisions.
